About Us
Keys on Avalon
I'm Wesley Reid, owner and teacher at Keys on Avalon.
Music has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I grew up in a musical household, joined my first choir when I was six, and started playing piano when I was eleven. I eventually went on to study vocal and choral music, music composition, and education at Snow College from 2010 to 2015.
Following college, I ended up taking a different career path for a decade. In 2025, having the opportunity to play piano professionally again reminded me how much I truly love music and how much I wanted to share that with others. I decided to do something crazy and try to make a living doing what I love.
The name for the studio, Keys on Avalon, came from two places. First, and most obviously, the studio is located near Avalon Street in Kuna. But Avalon is also the mythical island where Excalibur was forged and King Arthur was laid to rest. To me, one of the core ideals of Aruthurian mythology is the Round Table; a place of equality, where everyone has a seat. That is what I want this studio to be: a place where everyone is welcome and everyone belongs.

Keys on Avalon
My core belief is that everyone benefits from having more music
in their life. I want to help every student build a foundation
and love of music that will travel with them wherever their
journey leads, whether that's continuing lessons with us,
picking up a different instrument, or simply being someone who
understands and appreciates music deeply.
I want every student to be engaged and excited about the next step,
and growing at the pace that's right for them. Students here will
learn the language of music, to play, hear, understand, and feel it,
so that their connection to music is deeper and stronger than when
they first walked in the door.
That philosophy means that I want my lessons to be affordable and
approachable, that I want to remove barriers to entry wherever I can,
and to make learning music engaging and positive at every stage, so
that everyone who wants more music in their life has the chance to
find it.

Progress is tracked through a combination of in-lesson observations, included via emailed notes after each lesson, and the Vivid Practice app, which students use to log their practice between lessons. Longer-term goal-setting is an ongoing conversation — some students are working toward a specific piece or skill, others are simply building their relationship with music at their own pace.

For most beginners, 15 to 20 minutes of focused daily practice is a reasonable and effective starting point. As students advance, longer sessions become more beneficial. The Practice Pays program is built around sessions of 10 to 45 minutes, which is a good general guideline for most students. Consistency matters more than volume; a student who practices five days a week for 15 minutes will almost always outpace one who practices for an hour once a week.

For younger students especially, just asking a child to play you what they've been working on or sitting in on a lesson occasionally goes a long way.
Additionally, making sure practice has a regular, protected place in the week is one of the most impactful ways to support a child's progress. Even 15 minutes a day at a consistent time makes an enormous difference over weeks and months.
